Local Processing for Sensitive Video: Benefits and Remaining Risks
Use local video processing as one part of sensitive-file handling. Check the device, browser, download folder, backups, and the copies left after editing.

Local processing avoids sending the video to a processing server. It does not, by itself, secure the computer, remove backups, or control the people who receive the output.
For sensitive footage, use it as one part of a clear file-handling plan.
Check the device before the tool
Use a device and account suitable for the material. A shared laptop, untrusted browser extensions, or an automatically synchronized workspace may conflict with the handling requirement.
Know where the source already exists. If a phone or shared drive has uploaded it elsewhere, local editing does not remove that earlier copy.
For organizational material, use the approved endpoint and workflow rather than treating “in browser” as an exemption from policy.
Prepare the processing boundary
Unseen's Local processing performs the face task on the device. You can choose Prepare for offline use, wait for readiness, disconnect, and then select the file.
Test this with harmless footage first. Keep the prepared tab open and confirm that import, processing, and export all work.
Signing in can initially select Cloud processing, so deliberately check the mode. Face swap is cloud-only and is not part of an offline local workflow.
Know where the export lands
Browsers use a default downloads location unless configured otherwise. That folder may be backed up or synchronized when the network returns.
Choose a destination appropriate to the project. Keep originals, working files, and approved derivatives clearly named.
Do not put identifying details into filenames merely to make them easier to remember. A neutral project identifier is often sufficient.
Keep support requests from creating new copies
If a job fails, record the error and the relevant technical details. Avoid attaching sensitive footage to a support message by default.
A short harmless file that reproduces the same format or processing problem may be enough to diagnose it. If real media is necessary, use the organization's approved support process and establish how it will be handled.
This is independent of whether the original job was local.
Review the content and tidy up deliberately
Inspect the exported file for exposed faces and other identifiers. A secure processing location cannot make an incomplete mask safe to share.
Apply the project's retention rules to working copies and drafts. Do not promise forensic deletion merely because a file was removed from a folder, and do not discard an original that must be retained.
The privacy threat-model guide helps separate provider exposure, endpoint exposure, and recognition in the final video. Keeping those questions distinct makes the local-processing benefit easier to evaluate.
Plan before processing sensitive footage
Use staged, non-sensitive footage to evaluate the workflow before seeking approval for real records.
