How to Quality-Check an Anonymized Video From Start to Finish
Quality-check an anonymized video with full playback, targeted frame inspection, audio review, and a simple timestamp log tied to the exported file.

Quality-check the file you will actually share. Open the download, watch it from start to finish, and then inspect difficult moments more closely. A preview or face list is not a substitute for checking the rendered video.
For a short social clip, this can be quick. For a long or sensitive recording, set aside enough time to do it properly.
First confirm the file is complete
Check filename, duration, orientation, dimensions, beginning, ending, and sound. Make sure you are looking at the newest output rather than an older download with a similar name.
Look for an unexpected freeze, blank ending, or audio mismatch before judging face coverage. A privacy edit is not ready if the export itself is incomplete.
Keep the source available for comparison under the project's access rules.
Watch once without interruption
Normal playback shows what a viewer experiences. Look for masks jumping, wrong people being treated, and faces becoming unexpectedly clear.
Do not skip quiet sections automatically. A stationary background person may be easier to recognize than the main subject in motion.
Note timestamps as you go rather than interrupting every few seconds.
Inspect the risky intervals
Revisit entrances, exits, camera cuts, profiles, crossings, hands over faces, and reflections. If necessary, use a local player or editor with frame-step controls.
Check the frames immediately before and after the apparent problem. A mask may disappear early or return late.
For selective anonymization, verify both Hide and Keep decisions. It is possible to hide the wrong person while leaving the intended target visible.
Keep a small issue log
Record entries like:
- 00:08–00:09, right edge: new face appears uncovered.
- 00:23, mirror: reflected face remains visible.
- 01:14, speaker turn: mask moves away from profile.
- 02:02, audio: spoken full name needs an editing decision.
After correction, add the result and the new filename. This lets another reviewer reproduce the check without relying on your memory.
Check everything surrounding the video
Listen to the audio separately. Inspect captions, cover images, titles, descriptions, and filenames for details that contradict the intended privacy result.
If a publishing platform crops or transcodes the file, inspect its private draft preview too. Use the treated output as the source for thumbnails and shorter clips.
Approve the output you checked
A useful final note names the exact file, intended audience, reviewer, and any remaining limitations. If you change the crop, soundtrack, or shot order later, revisit the affected checks.
The missed-frame guide helps choose a correction when the log reveals a problem.
Try it on a short clip
Start with a difficult moment from your video, then inspect the exported result.
