How YouTubers Can Blur Bystanders Before Publishing
Blur bystanders with Unseen before uploading to YouTube. Keep your host visible and check thumbnails, Shorts, and reused footage before publishing.

Blur bystanders before uploading your video to YouTube, then publish the reviewed export. With Unseen, you can hide everyone in a street scene or keep your host visible while masking people in the background.
Start with the cut you intend to publish. There is little benefit in processing ten minutes of unused footage when only thirty seconds will appear in the finished video.
Prepare the cut before masking faces
Finish your basic cuts and framing first. Look for people entering at the edges, reflections in shop windows, and close-ups captured while the camera was being repositioned.
Decide which people should remain visible. In an interview, that might be the host and guest; in a market montage, it might be nobody. Make that decision for each shot rather than assuming one rule fits the whole recording.
Keep an untouched source separately from the working copy.
Blur bystanders in Unseen
- Open Unseen and choose Local processing for the free, on-device workflow. Check the selected mode explicitly if you are signed in.
- Import your finished cut and choose Blur.
- Use Blur all when nobody needs to stay visible. This skips the face-selection screen.
- To keep your host visible, use Select faces, click Select all, and set every confirmed host entry to Keep. Leave bystanders on Hide.
- With selective processing, choose Continue processing. Review the result and use Export video.
A host's profile or reflection may appear as a separate face entry. Check all entries before continuing; one thumbnail does not necessarily represent every appearance.
Review the downloaded file
Watch the actual export before uploading it. Pay particular attention to cuts, head turns, and people emerging from behind the host.
If a face briefly appears uncovered, note the timestamp. For local processing, trying Maximum may help with short appearances. If coverage still fails, crop or remove the problematic interval, or click Fix a missed face on the result screen to draw a box on it, track it through the shot, and export again (step by step).
Listen for spoken names and check captions too. A face effect does not remove either.
Check the thumbnail separately
A treated video can still have an untreated custom thumbnail. Choose a frame from the processed copy or design a thumbnail without the bystander.
Review teaser images and social previews made from the same recording. Keep them beside the approved export so someone preparing the upload does not accidentally reach for the original.
Make Shorts from the treated master
A vertical crop can enlarge a background face or bring a reflection into the center of attention. Start with the treated master, make the Short, and inspect the final crop.
If you rebuild from the original, repeat the face-processing step on that new edit. Store untreated sources outside your publishing folder and put only reviewed exports inside it. That keeps the next upload from undoing the work you have already checked.
Try it on a short clip
Start with a difficult moment from your video, then inspect the exported result.
