How to Blur Faces Online Without Uploading Your Video
Blur video faces without sending the source to a server. Learn what local mode does, how to disconnect before import, and what still uses the internet.
On this page
You can blur faces online without uploading the video when the tool runs its processing inside your browser. In Unseen, choose Local processing. The website delivers the software; your device supplies the video and does the work.
This distinction is easy to miss because a file picker often says “upload” even when it only opens a local file. What matters is where the video bytes go after you select it.
Use local mode explicitly
Open Unseen and select Local processing before importing the video. If you are signed in, check this carefully: the app can initially select cloud for signed-in users.
Choose your video, pick an effect, then click Blur all or Select faces. No account is needed for the local path. A downloaded result is created on your device when processing finishes.
Cloud is a separate option. It sends media to remote infrastructure, so it does not meet a requirement that the source never leave the device.
Disconnect before choosing the sensitive file
For a simple way to test the boundary, load the engine first:
- Choose Local processing.
- Click Prepare for offline use.
- Wait for the message that the local engine is ready.
- Disconnect Wi-Fi and any other network connection.
- Select a harmless test video, process it, and export it.
After a successful test, follow the same sequence with your actual file. Keep the prepared tab open. A fresh browser profile, cleared cache, or browser restart may require preparation again.
This proves that the prepared workflow can run without a network connection. It does not audit browser extensions, operating-system software, or copies already stored elsewhere.
Why there are network requests before import
The browser needs the page, detection models, and processing engine. Downloading those assets is compatible with local video processing. Account services and site telemetry are separate questions from whether the source media is uploaded.
If you inspect developer tools, open the Network panel before selecting a harmless file. A model download will generally look different from a media upload, but a quiet panel is not a complete security assessment. Disconnecting before import is easier to understand than trying to interpret every request.
What local processing costs
The cost is device time and resources. A short clip may be convenient on a laptop; a long, high-resolution recording can take much longer. Keep the tab open, use power, and test a representative section before committing to an extensive job.
Local does not mean the result is automatically anonymous. You still need to check whether the faces you intended to hide are covered. See the offline preparation guide for troubleshooting, or start with a short clip in Local processing.
Try it on a short clip
Start with a difficult moment from your video, then inspect the exported result.
