How Instagram Creators Can Anonymize People in Reels

Blur people in an Instagram Reel while keeping the creator visible. Handle covers, mirror reflections, vertical crops, and the last frame of a loop.

To anonymize people in a Reel, export your intended vertical edit, process that file in Unseen, and upload the treated download to Instagram. Choose the cover from the treated file too.

That last step matters: a correct video and an untreated cover can reveal the same person in different places.

Finish the vertical crop first

If the recording is horizontal, decide what belongs in the Reel before running detection. A crop can remove most bystanders, or it can enlarge one who was barely visible in the original.

For a gym or dance clip, scan mirrors across the full frame. Someone behind the camera may appear only in the reflection.

Do your cuts and reframing in your normal editor. Unseen handles the face treatment after you have a video file to process.

Use selective blur for a creator-led Reel

In Unseen, choose your mode and import the clip. Select Blur, then Select faces.

Use Select all and mark your own entries Keep. Everything else should remain Hide unless you have deliberately chosen otherwise. If your face appears from several angles, look through the whole face list rather than revealing just the first recognizable thumbnail.

Choose Continue processing, play the result, and use Export video.

Check the first and last frame together

Reels are often edited to loop smoothly. The closing frame may be on screen only briefly before the opening returns, but that brief appearance repeats.

Look at any person entering at the end, and check whether a transition blends in an untreated frame. If you added an ending card after anonymization, confirm the timeline uses the treated clip beneath it.

Captions and stickers do not replace face coverage

Text may cover a bystander in one frame and move away in another. Platform controls and caption placement can also differ from what you saw while editing.

Keep the actual face treatment in the video pixels. Use captions for communication and stickers for style, not as the only protection for someone moving around.

A separate cover should follow the same rule. If a grid crop or alternate preview is available, inspect it before publishing.

Save the version you reviewed

Store the final file with a recognizable name and use it for posting. If a collaborator asks for a different cut, tell them which file contains the face treatment.

For mirror-heavy footage, the gym guide explains how to review direct views and reflections. For a simple outdoor host shot, keep one person visible is the most relevant next step.

Try it on a short clip

Start with a difficult moment from your video, then inspect the exported result.
