How Construction Teams Can Blur Workers and Bystanders in Site Video
Prepare construction-site video for clients or social posts. Check workers, helmets, distant faces, site boards, vehicle markings, and the details worth showing.
On this page
Construction progress video should show the work clearly without exposing people or information the audience does not need. Review workers and bystanders, but also inspect site boards, badges, vehicle markings, and plans visible in the frame.
Face anonymization addresses one part of that review. It does not remove a company's name from a truck or a drawing pinned to a wall.
Choose footage that explains progress
A close view of installed work, a sequence of stages, or a wide view of the structure may communicate more than a roaming shot through a busy crew.
Make the client or public cut in your editor first. Remove unrelated conversations and moments when the camera passes close to workers who are not part of the presentation.
Use the site's recording and publication rules to decide who may remain visible.
Expect partial faces
Hard hats, safety glasses, masks, and equipment can obscure parts of faces. A worker may become identifiable only when they look up or turn away from the task.
In Unseen, test a short difficult segment before processing the full video. Maximum in local mode can help investigate brief appearances, but it is not a guarantee for obstructed faces.
Use Select faces if a designated presenter should remain visible; otherwise Blur all is simpler.
Check distance and camera movement
A drone or elevated shot can make people small. A later crop may enlarge those same faces in a social teaser.
Review the final crop rather than assuming a distant person is irrelevant. Also inspect camera pans where a worker passes close to the lens or appears at an edge for only a few frames.
If a face cannot be reliably detected, select a different shot or draw a box on the face in Review & fix faces and track it.
Review the site's information
Look at delivery labels, permit boards, access instructions, screen displays, and drawings. The correct treatment depends on what the client has approved for the audience.
Crop or cover sensitive text and objects in your usual editing software. Unseen does not currently automate plate, document, or custom-object redaction.
Listen for names, radio traffic, and discussions that the progress update does not need.
Keep client delivery separate from publicity
A client may receive a detailed update that would be unsuitable for a public account. Keep separate filenames and covers for those uses.
When the public version is complete, watch the downloaded file and confirm that the work remains understandable. A face mask should not obscure the construction detail the clip is supposed to demonstrate.
The action-camera guide covers similar motion problems in body-mounted site footage.
Try it on a short clip
Start with a difficult moment from your video, then inspect the exported result.
